“Along the Banks of the Isar River”, is a 108-year-old pencil-signed copper plate etching on heavy ivory German stock paper. Our impression is signed by the artist. The publisher of the artwork was E. A Seeman & Company, Leipzig, Germany, and documented the artwork. The image is slightly struck but otherwise in good condition for a lifetime piece.
About Eduard Winkler
Eduard Winkler (1884 -1978) was a renowned German etcher of landscapes and portraitures he was born in Russia and raised in Germany.
Eduard Winkler was born in Russia and raised in Germany. He was the son of a German factory owner who relocated to the Nuremberg area in 1895. From 1901 young Eduard studied at the School of Applied Arts in Nuremberg which is the oldest art academy in Germany. In 1906 Winkler transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich to study under the tutelage of Professor of Etching Peter Halm. Later Eduard became an associate professor at the college. In the early 1940’s he participated in the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich showing his etching and his German war effort propaganda posters. After World war, ll Winkler created the Association for the Original Etchings. This association of artists concentrated on landscapes and portraits as these were committed to the Munich school of the 19th century.
