New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made the official announcement last week that museums, botanical gardens, aquariums, and other cultural centers in the state of New York would begin reopening for business. As of today according to a New York Times article, the Brooklyn Museum, New York Botanical Gardens, and The New York Aquarium are open for business.

This is a big step!

The Museum of Modern Art will open its doors tomorrow August 27th, 2020 along with the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Metropolitan Museum of Art will open to the general public on Saturday, August 29th, 2020. According to Time Out New York, the Brooklyn Museum will also launch an outdoor sunset screening series scheduled for September 9th. These screenings will take place through the weekend from Wednesdays through Sundays, and they will continue to take place until mid-November. This is the new normal.

Shopping malls, movie theaters, and gyms are still closed and will be reopened when officials deem it safe enough. It will take New York City a long time to regain the momentum they’ve lost. That said, New Yorkers are a resilient bunch of people, and let me share a very cool quote by Elizabeth Edwards, an American attorney and healthcare activist who lost her battle with breast cancer,  and her take on resilience.

“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it’s less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you’ve lost, or you can accept that and try to put together something that’s good.” ― Elizabeth Edwards

We will get our culture back New York !!
