about Eberhard Quirin:

Eberhard Quirin (1864- 1951) Since the late 19th century Eberhard Quirin was a painter in Frankfurt where he exhibited his works. In December 1908, at the age of 44, he enrolled again at the Städelschule (the fine arts academy in Frankfurt am Main) with the professional term “painter”, and received a scholarship by the famous painter and etcher Bernhard Mannsfeld.  In 1927 he buys a small house in Gonzenheim and in 1928 he married Marguerite Auguste Eugenie von Brentano di Tremezzo (1882-1973) in Frankfurt. The couple moved to Gonzenheim where the two remained residents until her death.

Quirin created numerous etchings and some oil paintings of homes and squares of Frankfurt Old Town. His series of copperplate etching help him raise funds to attend the German prestigious art schools. At the turn of the century, Quirin worked as a draftsman for the Small Press in Frankfurt, an illustrated local newspaper. The new photo reproduction printing technologies of the day cost Eberhard like many other draftsmen their jobs.

Returning to fine art as a full-time career he continued creating etchings of cityscapes. His most important works are of  Old Main Bridge, the Cathedral, the Gerbermühle building, the Holzhausenschlösschen palace, and the Holy Ghost Church represent the Old Town of Frankfurt which went down in 1944 during the World War 2 bombings. His works can be found in The Historical Museum in Frankfurt am Main (HMF), the Städelschule, the Bad Homburg Museum in the Gothic House, and mainly in private collections.
