Description

“Trees in Winter”: A Signature Lithograph by Bernard Gantner, 1961

“Trees in Winter” stands as a testament to Bernard Gantner’s distinctive artistic flair. This limited-edition, pencil-signed, and numbered lithograph, evoking the tranquil serenity of a winter landscape with dormant trees against a setting sun, is reminiscent of the poetic essence of William Carlos Williams. Produced on Rives wove paper in 1961, this color lithograph is distinctly hand-signed by Gantner on the lower right and numbered on the lower left, indicating its exclusivity. Ensuring the artwork’s immaculate condition, it has been meticulously stored in an architectural flat-file drawer within a controlled, smoke-free environment and is presented matted and framed.

Provenance:
The artwork’s authenticity is fortified by two original labels affixed on its verso from the Collector’s Guild. The primary label provides a concise biography of Bernard Gantner, while the secondary label acts as the Certificate of Authenticity from “The Collector’s Guild”, located at 185 Madison Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10016. Moreover, the Societe de Vérification de la Nouvelle Gravure Internationale of New York and Paris certifies this lithograph as original, limited to an edition of 275, individually signed by the artist. They also confirm the lithograph stone’s defacement post the edition’s completion.

A glimpse into the life of Bernard Gantner:
Bernard Gantner, born in 1928 in Belfort, Alsace, France, was a prodigious artist by age nine. Gantner was mentored by his teacher grandfather and a Belfort museum curator during World War II, which helped him explore the art world, especially during the museum’s closure. His exposure to Delacroix, Courbet, and Seurat masterpieces was profound.

Gantner studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and immersed himself in the city’s rich culture after Belfort. Claude Roger Mars, an art critic, was awarded the Critic’s Prize in 1961 for his rising career. Gantner, a lithographer, has had over 60 exhibitions worldwide, including the Dyansen Galleries. Bernard Gantner’s career ended in 2018, leaving a legacy of unparalleled art.
