An original engraving on medium stock paper. The engraving was taken from an original painting by the eminent artist Alonso Chappel (1828-1887). Bookplate from 1872, 1st edition book titled, “Portrait Gallery of Eminent Men & Women of Europe and America.” There were 2,500 copies printed by Johnson Fry & Company, NYC, NY.

About Emily Chubbuck Judson
Emily Chubbuck Judson was born in Eaton, New York, in 1817. She published much of her work under the pseudonym, Fanny Forester. Some of Judson’s books include An Olio of Domestic Versus (1852) and Charles Linn, or, How to Observe the Golden Rule: with Other Stories (1841). Judson died in 1854.
