Heiss, Gottlieb (1686 -1740)

 

Gottlieb Heiss was born in Memmingen, Germany in 1686 and died at the age of 56 in Augsburg, Germany. Heiss was an expert in mezzotints. He was Elias Christoph Heiss’ nephew and student at Augsburg, where he learned the mezzotint technique. As one of the first and most notable German mezzotint print manufacturers and international publishers, Gottlieb Heiss of Augsburg, Germany, made exceptional quality and large-scale portraits.
