“The Fisherman” is a limited-edition, hand-signed and numbered etching created by French artist Henri Le Riche about 1910.
Annotation
Henri Le Riche’s impression of “The Fisherman” is an original drypoint etching printed on very thin China paper with large margins. It is signed in pencil by Le Riche to the lower right and numbered,’29/125’, to the lower left. The Fisherman is a fine example of everyday life in Paris about 1910. It represents multi-generations working together to enjoy ‘their catch of the day’. The image was drawn from the banks of Place Louis Aragon looking over the Seine and a hint of Notre Dame de Paris in the background.
Condition
Containing slight matte burning in the outer margins and one small spot of foxing within the lower margin, else a deep, finely printed impression and in decent condition throughout. The Fisherman represents a prime, original example of the art of Henri Le Riche.
About Henri Le Riche
Henri Le Riche was a French painter, engraver and sculptor, He studied art in Paris under Robert-Fleury. In 1888 he was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome which allowed him to conclude his artistic training in that city. Henri Le Riche began exhibiting his engravings, etchings, and pastels in Paris in 1894 at the Salon des Artistes Francais and elsewhere.
Henri Le Riche also gained a considerable reputation for his work in sculpture, usually signed with his pseudonym, ‘Hirne’. In 1898, Henri Le Riche became a full member of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts and, in 1922, was awarded both a Gold Medal and the chevalier de la Legion d’ Honneur from the French government.
